Support for caregivers

Caring for someone you love is a lot. You don’t have to do it alone.

Whether you’re a spouse, an adult child juggling work and family, or caring from another city, The City Nurse supports you too. Alongside our nurses, our social worker can meet with you for counselling, emotional support, and help finding the right resources, so you can keep caring without burning out.

Social worker talking with a family caregiver

Meet with our social worker

Caregiving can bring stress, guilt, grief, and hard decisions, often all at once. Our social worker meets with family caregivers at home, by phone, or by video to help you cope, plan, and find the support you need.

Counselling and emotional support

A confidential space to talk through caregiver stress, burnout, anxiety, family tension, and grief, including the grief that starts before a loss.

Navigating resources

Help understanding and applying for Ontario Health atHome services, adult day programs, respite care, support groups, and retirement or long-term care options.

Financial and practical guidance

Pointing you toward caregiver tax credits, EI caregiving benefits, and other programs you may qualify for, and helping you organize the paperwork.

Family meetings and planning ahead

Support for difficult conversations: who does what, advance care planning, substitute decision-makers, and what to do if things change suddenly.

Looking after yourself is part of caring for them.

Feeling exhausted, short-tempered, isolated, or guilty? Losing sleep, or putting your own health on hold? These are common signs of caregiver strain, and they’re a signal to get support, not a sign you’re failing.

Book a free 15-minute call and let us know you’d like to speak with our social worker. Caregiver support can be booked on its own or alongside nursing care for your loved one.
